Cheeseslaw Champs Crowned

By Megan Williams

The 2DRY FM Cheeseslaw World Championships have wrapped up for another year after last weekend’s showdown for the esteemed title of Cheeseslaw World Champion!

The judging panel consisted of Lee Cecchin and Cohen Marks from the Old Salt Bush, Rev. Helen Ferguson, and Hoedown Host Eliza Jayne.

There were only a few points in it for the judging panel, it was Treasure Johnstone who took home the Golden Grater in the Traditional Category, while Leah Cutjar from the Community Centre came out on top in the Alternative Category having made the mayonnaise from scratch.

There were 20 registrations in total and once the judges had deliberated, everyone was free to enjoy the Cheeseslaw with bread donated by the Sufi Bakery and cooked chook and gravy donated by Rags take away. A delight all round.

People were then able to vote in the “People’s Choice” which was taken out by 2016 Alternative Category winner Sophie Angell.

The event wrapped up 2DRY FM’s first ever Radiothon, which raised a total of $5700 for our community radio station. It’s a great total for our first fundraising campaign, that will go a long way in supporting operational costs and securing the financial future of station.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that donated, volunteered, told their friends, or simply joined us in our Radiothon activities. It’s back to regular programming now at 2DRY and as always, we have an open door for anyone that wants to share music, news, community stories or help in any way.

We’ve got a great team building at 2DRY with lots more coming, so you’re sure to see us again very soon.
