The Broken Hill Veteran and Vintage Car Club’s (BHVVCC) Auto Show is on at Memorial Oval tomorrow – Sunday, August 13 – from 10am to 2pm. And there’s a chance to showcase your own vintage vehicle too!
The biennial event hasn’t run since 2019 due to Covid, though BHVVCC President and organiser of this event, Gavin Farquhar, is hoping for another strong turnout, telling us the previous show had some 1500 attendees.
“I’ve been doing it since 2000, but it’s been going since about 1973, every two years. It’s been around for a while and it’s just getting bigger and bigger,” he said.
“We invite all the other clubs in town to participate, sporting bodies and all that. There’ll be an arrangement of vehicles and displays. It’s a good day so hopefully we’ll get a fair few there and there’s a good variety of vehicles from old to new for the public to have a look at.
Cars and motorbikes from Broken Hill won’t be the only ones on display, with vehicles making their way from Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Mildura, and Adelaide also. Among them, Mr Farquhar is hoping that a Model T Ford – which would be well over 100 years old – will be one of the vehicles to make its way to the Silver City.
“It’s open to anything that’s got a motor in it, whether it be a car or a motorbike. So, if you’ve got a vintage bike, a modern Harley, a street bike, a vintage car, or a modern car, any make or model, you’re quite welcome to come along and display it”, Mr Farquhar says.
“It’s just a matter if you want to put your car in the show, you’ve got to be there by 9.30am. It costs you $2 to enter your vehicle. You’ll get a sticker to put on your front window and there’s prizes up for grabs.”
The public also has a chance to win a gate prize for a weekend away to Mildura that includes accommodation, a $100 fuel voucher, and a family pass into the Mildura Holden Motor Musuem. Entry into the show is $5 or $10 per family. Food and drinks will be available (cash only).
