Weekend soccer – round three

The action is heating up at the O’Neill Memorial Grounds as we head into the third round of fixtures in the Broken Hill Soccer Association. This weekend Alma vs West Panthers, and this season’s surprise packets Celtic take on St Joes.

Celtic are looking to consolidate their position at the top of the table, and a victory over last season’s premiers St Joes will certainly do that.

In the other fixture Alma tackle West with both sides looking for their first victories of the season. A loss for West will be a near fatal blow to their final’s hopes. A loss won’t do Alma any good either. The Goats have a solitary point on the board, so they will be hungry for all three this weekend.

“It could be one of those games, mate,” West coach George Bugeja told the Truth

“If we perform like last week I think we could at least pull off a draw with them. But it all depends on what mood the boys are in again.”

In the women’s competition, the fixtures are mirrored, which means Alma and West face off in a top-of-the-table clash, whilst Celtic and St Joes battle it out as both sides continue the search for their first victory of the season.

The action kicks off tomorrow – Sunday – at O’Neill Memorial Park from 2pm, with the Alma vs West A-Grade clash on the bottom pitch, followed by Celtic vs St Joes A-Grade matchup at 4pm. At 2.15pm Celtic vs St Joes kicks off, followed by Alma vs West at 4.20pm, with both of the women’s fixtures taking place on the top pitch.
