State soccer try-outs on Monday

Broken Hill Junior Soccer Try-Outs

Broken Hill Junior Soccer Association (BHJSA) state try-outs are on this Monday. Set to start at 6pm on April 24, they will run until around 7.30pm at O’Neill Memorial Park.

The try-outs hand the potential soccer stars of the future the opportunity to represent Broken Hill at the upcoming South Australia Junior Soccer Association (SAJSA) State Championships.

The State champs are traditionally held on the Queens (now King’s) birthday long weekend at Football Headquarters, Gepps Cross in Adelaide.

President of the BHJSA, Anita Hoysted, is urging all juniors to come along and try their hand at the try-outs this Monday night.

“We’re looking at age groups from under-12 development all the way up to under-16s,” Ms Hoysted told us.

“I’m confident that we’ll be able to put in teams across the board. We have had good numbers joining up again this year and we usually find that kids will join during the season, so they will hopefully come along to representative try-outs too.”

Once the squads have been selected, specialised training sessions will take place with coaches for each age group right up until the big trip to South Australia takes place.

“Once you have made the team, the different managers and coaches will arrange training sessions. As we get closer to the competition, training ramps up and we will play some games too,” says Ms Hoysted.

“There is a minimal team contribution fee, and all kids are supplied with a playing shirt, shorts, and socks. This year we are looking at setting up an online team merchandise store too.”

Of course, we couldn’t chat about the upcoming SAJSA State Championships without checking on the progress of the SAJSA Country Championships which are happening later this year right here in our own backyard.

“We are busy planning. We are hoping for a great turnout. A lot of accommodation sites are taking lots and lots of bookings, and we are working on some alternatives just in case anyone misses out.

“It has been 12 years since Broken Hill has hosted the Country Championships, so now it is our turn to shine and showcase Broken Hill.”

The Broken Hill Junior Soccer Association club season begins on April 28 and 29 and the SAJSA State Championships take place over the King’s Birthday long weekend in June, with the County Championships in early September.
