Five teams to SAJSA State Champs

The South Australian Junior Soccer Association State Championships take place this weekend in Adelaide, and the Silver City will have five representative sides crossing the border to South Australia.

Broken Hill will field teams in the under-12s development group along with under-12s, under-13s, under-16s and a girls under-13s.

“Everyone’s looking forward to it,”. Broken Hill Junior Soccer Association President Anita Hoysted told the Truth.

“We’re hoping we can put in more teams for the SAJSA Country Championships when we host it. But everyone should give their best and have a great championship.”

Celtic Women’s team goalkeeper Brianna Thrift is one of the local players coaching the under-13 girls side and says she is looking forward to the experience.

With the under 13 girls side playing in a 9v9 format, Brianna is blessed with a large squad.

“I’ve got a big team, which is great because I’ve got some young players. I’m taking away 12 players,” Brianna told us.

“We are going there for the experience, and we are going to learn lots of things from playing against other associations. It is going to be a lot of fun.”

There is plenty of standout talent in the representative side, but one that deserved special mention from her coach was Mia Johnson.

“Mia Johnson is our centre back and she is extraordinary. She is a superstar in the making,” Brianna says.

The South Australian Junior Soccer Association State Championships take place this long weekend, with the finals taking place on the Monday public holiday.
