Tonky’s Tips: Dale Tonkin’s expert opinion as we move into AFL Round 2.

First up this Saturday, in the early game North take on Central at the Jubilee Oval at 12.50pm. The Dogs must show resilience and quickly get over last week’s game or they will find themselves in a similar position to last week, so it’s time to regain some confidence and get back to what they know – playing their strong brand.

Central on the other hand look quite competitive. I like the way they defend the ground and last week despite their loss they most certainly won the ground ball gets.

This match will be a real contest and a battle of attrition. I’m tipping the Dogs by just 12 points.

In the late game we see South versus West – both winners from last week. To have a chance to beat South you must put enough pressure on to break their chain of handballs, and the pressure must be all around the ground because their kicking skills are elite level.

Marc Purcell has not slowed down one bit. He palms players off with minimal fuss and the team has quality all over the ground and if you think it might be easier to beat them without Mitchel Henderson playing, think again because Jordan Holmes is just about unstoppable.

Having said that, West had a very good second half against Central last week and showed their dare and run which teams will find difficult to counter because their running speed and speed on the ball is extremely quick and can cut a game up in a quarter of good footy.

I simply cannot go past the Roos, as they were awesome last week, so I’m going South by eight goals.
