On the safe track – ARTC Broken Hill team celebrate 10 years

The Australian Rail Track Corporation’s (ARTC) Broken Hill team has achieved a stunning new safety record – no less than 10 years without a safety incident.

The operational and maintenance team achieved an incident-free safety record for some 3500 working days.

Among its 21 staff members – 16 infrastructure maintenance staff, three signaling staff, and two administration workers – they’ve been responsible for working in a frequently hazardous remote working environment while maintaining and repairing the rail line that stretches over 700km between Bogan Gate and Broken Hill.

“We are very proud of the ARTC team in Broken Hill for achieving this excellent safety record,” ARTC General Manager Asset Maintenance Services, Costas Kokkoni, said.

“The remote conditions that the Broken Hill team are often working in means that they always need to be extra cautious about their surroundings and weather conditions. They need to plan ahead to make sure that they and their vehicles are properly equipped with the right safety and recovery equipment.

“The Broken Hill team treat each other with respect, and they value a safe work environment. That culture has helped them achieve this excellent safety record.”
