North suffer first defeat – West demolish Central

There’s just a third of the regular season remaining in the AFL Broken Hill Reserves competition following the completion of Round 10, which saw South handing North its first defeat of the year, while West held Central scoreless on the way to a demolishing win.

 SOUTH V NORTH

North suffered its first defeat of the 2023 season at Alma Oval on the weekend, going down to South by 49 points.

A crucial six-goal-to-one second quarter was the deciding factor in the Roos getting the edge following a closely-contested first term on the scoreboard. Despite a goalless third quarter from South, North could just bridge the gap by two goals, before a scoreless finish to the game for the visitors.

Matthew Reavill kicked a game-high four goals for the Roos, and was backed up in the forward line by Harley Cannard who kicked three majors. South’s Nate Sparrow, and North’s Tobias Hack and Connor Turley were the game’s other multiple goalscorers, kicking two goals each.

A six-goal opening term from the Robins was bettered in the second quarter, kicking eight majors to head into the main break with an 88-point lead, before a 13-goal second half resulted in the blowout victory over the Magpies.

West had 12 goalkickers on the day, with captain Peter Christos and Suni Forner leading the way with four majors each. Percy Bates and Casey Ferguson kicked three goals apiece for the Roos, while five other players kicked multiple goals across the match.
